Why VSee Telemedicine For CMS Innovation

CMS Innovation Award FOA

The August 15 deadline for CMS Innovation Awards Round 2 is looming. Many organizations are looking to implement telemedicine video conferencing as part of their CMS innovation award proposal. If you’re planning to include a telemedicine piece in your project, here are some reasons why VSee telemedicine may be for you!

Why VSee Telemedicine?

VSee secure video chat tool for telemedicine has several unique features that make it ideal for virtual doctor consultations, nurse video visits, and other telehealth workflows.

1. Easily add medical peripheral video streams

VSee is the only video chat that can simultaneously send up to 4 auxiliary camera feeds from a single device.  Other video conferencing solutions can only send one camera feed at a time; if you need to send an additional medical device camera video feed other than the webcam view, other solutions require an external video mixer or toggling back and forth between the different video feeds.

2. No expensive video infrastructure to maintain

VSee does not require dedicated infrastructure – no video router or multipoint control units (MCUs), thus it is ideal for large scale deployments.

3. Crosses firewalls

VSee crosses all firewalls and does not require administrator permissions to install, thus making it easy for hospital and consumer deployments.

4. Low-bandwidth video chat

VSee uses half the bandwidth of Skype, Vidyo, and other popular video chat providers for the same video quality.  Its network sensing streaming protocol is optimized for 3G, Wifi, satellite, and congested hospital networks and allows for video connection even in poor network situations.  VSee video performance was published by NIH in an independent study comparing VSee, Polycom, and Cisco in Telemedicine and eHealth (2010).

5. Live EMR-sharing & annotation

VSee sharing features includes one-click EMR-sharing with annotation that allows providers and patients to discuss and mark up medical records without losing face contact.

6. Integrate into a website or application

VSee has a simple API that allows for easy integration into a health portal or the secure creation of a web-based telehealth portal including support for virtual waiting room, doctor dashboard, etc.

Together, these features make VSee a simple and cost-effective telemedicine solution that is versatile enough to fit any health care innovation plan.

About CMS Innovation Awards

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will be spending up to $1 billion through the CMS Health Care Innovation Awards to fund and evaluate projects testing new ways to deliver better care and lower costs for Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollees.

In particular, the CMS Innovation Awards are looking for proposals for new payment models for service delivery in the following 4 areas:

  • models that rapidly reduce costs in outpatient and/or post-acute settings.
  • models that improve care for populations with specialized needs.
  • Models that test approaches for transforming provider financial and clinical models.
  • Models that improve the health of populations through comprehensive care (e.g. prevention, wellness, engagement) beyond clinical services

Both public and private organizations are eligible to apply.
