Conflict-affected regions like Cameroon and the Sahel are home to over 30 million people who face some of the world's highest maternal mortality rates, compounded by climate change, extreme weather conditions, and ongoing security concerns. We are excited to share the progress we've made this year on Project VITAL (Virtual International Telehealth and Leadership) in Cameroon — a commitment we made in partnership with Health Tech Without Borders (HTWB) and iDocta at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2023 Annual Meeting last September.
In early 2024, Project VITAL launched two telehealth pilot programs in Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon, where they successfully tested our secure, scalable VSee Health telehealth platform with a subset of patients at the clinic. These programs demonstrated VSee's capabilities in enabling quality healthcare delivery and allowed testers to gain invaluable insights for further development.
Dr. Milton Chen, our Co-CEO, expressed it best: “VSee Health from its beginning has been focused on designing secure, robust, and scalable technology that impacts our society. The successful use of our customizable platform demonstrates exactly what our technology was built to do — provide healthcare access in war-torn and remote parts of Africa. We’re proud to take part in this Clinton Global Initiative commitment and to support HTWB and iDocta in a meaningful way.”
Following the successes of these pilots, Project VITAL is now working on its next phase: to expand its reach to the remote North/Northwestern regions, as well as to enhance services such as telehealth consultations, home visits, and pharmacy requests. In addition, we will be working to overcome barriers to remote care by addressing the legal, financial, technological, and cultural challenges that often come with providing care virtually.
The team has also grown to include additional clinicians and local technical experts. Partnering with Sand Technologies, ALX Africa, African Leadership University (ALU), and The FutureList global innovation scouts to bring in local talent, programmers, and coders to manage and maintain the platform. This ensures that the technology and healthcare capabilities remain in the hands of the communities it is serving.
We're excited with the progress Project VITAL has made this year, and we look forward to work that will be done in the coming year. The journey is far from over, but each step brings us closer to a sustainable model of healthcare access that empowers the communities in these vulnerable regions. We remain committed to leveraging our secure, scalable technology and building lasting partnerships to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.
